As CES 2020 came to an end after 4 days of never-ending exhibitions, keynotes, pitches, and after-parties. I’ve been going to CES for 8 years now and it’s been exciting to see the rise and evolution of different technologies and industries.
While there have been many changes in the gadget landscape, I am particularly happy to see more technologists focus their attention on creating products for our loved pets. Hello, pet tech.
The pet tech industry is growing and releasing products intersecting with wearables, health and fitness, food, connectivity, entertainment, safety, and more. There is a great gadget for every aspect of pet care and we’re highlighting some awesome brands that showcased at CES.
Whistle: GPS Pet Tracker and Health Monitor
Many pet owners, unfortunately, believe that microchipping their pet provides GPS tracking but in reality, it’s just to ID the animal. Whistle is widely known for its GPS and health tracking collar attachment that was recognized by Oprah.
With extreme accuracy and ease of use, pet owners can feel peace of mind with a mobile app to check how active their pet has been and where exactly they are located in real-time.
Presented at Showstoppers, an exclusive showcase of the hottest brands at CES, Whistle’s latest release includes product updates and brand new gear. The flagship model of the health and location tracker combo is the Whistle Go Explore, which has a waterproof rating of IPX 8 and has 20-day battery life. It also comes with an integrated nightlight with 3 settings.
The Whistle GO is more affordable and essentially the same functionally but without some of the bells and whistles. See what I did there?
For those not interested in the GPS tracking capabilities but do favor the health tracking features, the Whistle FIT can suggest food portions based on your pet’s activity levels and other parameters.
While Wag Brands does make consumer products, they’re actually a B2B company that helps existing brands ideate, develop, and distribute new products in the pet industry.
Wag Brands has worked with the likes of Energizer, Sealy, Volkswagon, and America’s favorite cat, Garfield.
At CES, Wag Brands was showcasing some of their different products across various categories. In collaboration with Sealy, the popular mattress company, Wag helped bring an award-winning dog bed to market, the Sealy Dog Bed.
For Energizer, Wag produced a QR code enabled LED dog tag called the SPOT LED Tag. If someone finds a lost pet, they can scan the QR code to ID the pet and it will send a message to the owner with the general location.
These are just a few of the products that come from licensing and manufacturing with Wag Brands with many more in their portfolio.
Okay so this one is not exactly a gadget, but there is an app involved. Fitpet allows pet owners to perform a urinalysis at home, accurately and quickly. With such high costs for visits to the vet and expensive fees for testing urine, stool, or blood, pet owners and pets have a lot to gain from affordable, preventative healthcare.
The idea is pretty simple. You get a test strip to coat in urine and a color chart. Once the test strip is coated, it is placed on the color chart and you use the app to snap a picture and the algorithms in the app will get to work to get you results in under 1 minute. The test will give you insight into 10 different diseases.
Test your pet for 10 diseases in 1 minute at home with an app and a urine test — count me in!
There is a lot of other great pet-tech out there for smart-home focused home and pet owners.
Want to give your dog a treat while away from home and watch them eat it? Furbo does that. Is there a gadget you wish existed for your fur baby?
