The Renault Zoe EV will get a memorable debut at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. The launch is planned for 2021 with the expected price of the French carmaker Renault’s electric vehicle between Rs 14 to 16 lakhs.
One can expect a plethora of electric vehicles at the Auto Expo in February. Almost all auto manufacturers will be launching their electric vehicle versions at the Expo. Renault is planning to debut the Zoe EV model along with the sub-4 metre SUV HBC in its concept version.
The Renault Zoe EV is a successful model overseas. Revealed at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, it was launched with great fanfare in the same year at the Paris Motor Show. The vehicle has gone through various updates with the last one as late as October 2019.
The Renault Zoe EV is not an indigenously Made In India Car. Similar to Hyundai and MG, Renault is testing the Indian waters by introducing an imported EV instead of manufacturing it locally in India. The debut at the Auto Expo will allow the company to gauge customer response before releasing it in 2021. Reportedly, Renault is testing the vehicle on Indian roads to get a feel of the Indian conditions.
This French-made hatchback model has excellent dimensions (4087mm X 1787mm X 1562mm – LxWxH). The wheelbase of 2588mm makes this car a reasonably comfortable one. In its appearance, the Renault Zoe EV resembles a sub-compact hatchback like the Hyundai i20 or the Tata Altroz.
On the power front, this car works on a 52kWh Lithium-ion battery for powering a front-mounted electric motor. Customers have a choice between two motors, the R110 and R135. The R110 delivers 108ps of power and a torque of around 225Nm. The corresponding figures for the R135 are 135ps and 245Nm.
On the mileage front, the vehicle delivers excellent performance with the R100 engine clocking 395km and the R135, 386km on a single charge. The acceleration is magnificent, as well with the R110 clocking 3.9 seconds and R135, 3.6 seconds to race from 0 to 100kmph. The corresponding top speed performance is 135kmph and 140kmph respectively.
The charging time could be somewhere in the range of three to four hours, depending on the type of charger you use. The vehicle comes equipped with a 50kW DC charger that can charge the batteries to around 80% in one hour and ten minutes.
The Renault Zoe EV exteriors come equipped with a C-shaped DRL, LED dynamic turn signals, LED tail lamps, and 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. The Renault Zoe EV interiors boast of excellent features like a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9.3-inch touchscreen info system, leather upholstery, wireless smartphone charger, and an electric parking brake.
The Renault Zoe EV could launch sometime in 2020 in the price range of around Rs 14 to 16 lakhs.
