Currently, if you want to buy a phone, there are a host of great options with killer designs and amazing features. However, you have to spend upwards of Rs 30,000 for those and if you are on a strict budget, you will have to settle for some compromises. For a budget of less than Rs 10,000, you won’t find the latest chips or high-resolution cameras but you will get just enough to get you going in the world of smartphones.
Thankfully, 2019 saw some great phones launch around Rs 15,000 and as the calendar turns around, many of these phones have received big price cuts. Hence, for less than Rs 10,000 now, you can have a phone that flaunts premium glass body, support fast charging, has high-resolution cameras and a massive battery. You also have the option to choose between custom interfaces or a complete stock Android interface.
With this list suggesting a merry time to go smartphone shopping, we pick some of the best ones you can spend your money on without burning a hole in your wallet.
Redmi Note 7 Pro
It has been our top pick for a phone costing under Rs 15,000 and with prices dropping down to Rs 9,999 for the base variant, it is once again our top pick under Rs 10,000. The Note 7 Pro flaunts a stylish glass body with Gorilla Glass 5 protection, runs on the Snapdragon 675 chipset and thrives on a 4000mAh battery with support fast charging. It only has a dual-camera setup but it uses the 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor and you can always expect good photos in any lighting condition. The base version with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage at Rs 9,999 is a great pick if you are on a strict budget.
Redmi Note 8
Being a successor to the Redmi Note 7, the Redmi Note 8 gets some massive upgrades and is a solid phone for Rs 9,999. It uses a Snapdragon 665 chip paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The battery remains the same at 4000mAh but it comes with an 18W fast charger in the box. At the back, you will find a versatile quad-camera setup flaunting a 48-megapixel main camera along with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera and two 2-megapixel cameras. If none of these excite you, the Gorilla Glass 5 panels on the front and back with the special gradient colour schemes make it the best deal.
Samsung Galaxy M30
By now, the Samsung Galaxy M30 is quite old but it still offers a lot of smartphone for a lot less price. The Galaxy M30 is the only phone here to come with a huge 5000mAh battery and a massive 6.4-inch AMOLED display. The Galaxy M30 is also set to get the Android 10 update soon, which also makes it a good deal in 2020 as well. You get triple rear cameras comprising of a 13-megapixel main camera along with a 5-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a depth camera. The body is made of plastic but it comes with a nice gradient. And best of all, it has a USB-C port and support 15W fast charging.
The Realme 5S is the only phone you can buy for less than Rs 10,000 if you want to stick to a Realme phone. For its price, it’s not the best option but it’s certainly a good choice for those who want a stylish body and a massive 5000mAh. The Realme 5S also comes with a 48-megapixel main camera that does a decent job in all lighting conditions. There’s also an 8-megapixel wide-angle camera along with two 2-megapixel depth and macro cameras. The HD display isn’t great for watching videos and the Snapdragon 665 isn’t quite suited for mobile gaming. Also, it still comes with a micro USB port.
Motorola One Macro
If you want a stock Android interface, the Motorola One Macro is your only option. The One Macro uses a MediaTek Helio P70 chipset that’s almost as powerful as the Snapdragon 665 which is paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. The One Macro gets a 13-megapixel main camera along with a 2-megapixel camera and a 2-megapixel depth camera. You also get a 4000mAh battery with support for 10W fast charging. Since it’s an Android One device, it will get at least the stock Android 10 update in this year.
