GROSSE POINTE — Louie Sun, Collin Che and Joe Krzciok earned state-qualifying times in individual events for Dow High on Saturday as the Chargers took second out of four teams at the Grosse Pointe South swim quad.
GPS took first place with 559 points, followed by Dow (486), Birmingham Groves (433) and Warren De La Salle (279).
Winning events for Dow were Che with a state cut in the 200 IM (2:00.82), Sun with a state cut in the 100 butterfly (53.86), Che/Krzciok/Conrad Varhola/Mark Van Heel with a state cut in the 200 free relay (1:31.02), Sun with a state cut in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.64), and Che/Krzciok/Brendan Ladwein/Sun with a state cut in the 400 free relay (3:22.22).
Taking second were Nathan Johnson/Sun/Varhola/Van Heel with a state cut in the 200 medley relay (1:43.74), Ladwein in the 200 free (1:52.20) and Che with a state cut in the 100 free (48.02).
Taking third were Krzciok in the 50 free (23.23), Varhola in the 100 butterfly (56.54) and Krzciok with a state cut in the 100 free (49.93).
Taking fifth were Thomas Bacigalupo in the 200 free (1:55.91), Varhola in the 50 free (23.49) and Austin Urlaub in the 100 backstroke (1:02.02).
Taking sixth were Bacigalupo in the 100 fly (59.65), Ladwein in the 100 free (52.28) and Gavin Boguszewski in the 100 breast (1:09.32).
The Chargers’ next meet is Friday, Jan. 3 against Flint Carman-Ainsworth and Bay City Central at Carman-Ainsworth.
