Huawei sub-brand Honor has launched a new gaming accessory at Gamescom 2019, in Cologne, Germany. The company has announced its newest Snap-on Gamepad accessory for smartphones. The Snap-on Gamepad can be attached on the left or right side of the smartphone, when the device is in landscape mode. This accessory uses USB Type-C or Bluetooth for connection and can charge itself using the USB-C port on a smartphone.
During Gamescom 2019, Honor announced that 18 percent of its users identify themselves as gamers. So, the company planned to introduce a special gaming accessory for its users. The Snap-on Gamepad is compatible with many games and will allow users to map keys differently. The Snap-on Gamepad settings can be customized for every game. Also, the company claims that its Snap-on Gamepad offers console-grade gaming using the physical buttons.
The Honor Snap-on Gamepad sports a joystick along with six buttons, four of which are D-pad controls. There is another button below the D-pad and a trigger on the top of the accessory. Along with these, the Honor Snap-on Gamepad comes with a 400mAh battery that can be charged with a USB Type-C charger or a smartphone’s USB Type-C port. Also, the Snap-on Gamepad offers reverse charging to power a smartphone during intense gaming sessions.
Honor has not announced any details about the compatibility and size requirements for the Snap-on Gamepad. This may suggest that the gaming accessory is compatible for most smartphones. However, some reports suggest that the Honor Snap-on Gamepad will be exclusive for Honor 20 and Honor 20 Pro. The company also announced that the Snap-on Gamepad will go sale later this year in Western Europe. However, the details about price and global launch have not been revealed yet. But, we can expect the company to make official announcements soon.
Besides, Xiaomi had launched a similar gaming accessory earlier this year. Xiaomi’s gamepad features a joystick, a D-pad, and LT and LB buttons. These physical buttons can be reconfigured by users. Also, the Xiaomi gamepad supports Bluetooth v4.2 connectivity and is powered by 340mAh battery. However, the Xiaomi gamepad is available exclusively for Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro and only launched in China so far. The company has not made any announcements regarding its global launch.
