Huawei P30 Pro | What Mobile

Great features such as the triple-lens camera make this a real standout

Huawei has not grown to be one of the UK’s dominant smartphone brands for nothing. Awesome innovations and strong fundamentals such as battery and design have helped its climb to the top – and it is no different when it comes to the P30 Pro.

With the new device, Huawei has delivered an incredible smartphone that will no doubt satisfy. The standout feature is the triple-lens camera, which boasts incredible performance in long-range and low-light photography. When Richard Yu showcased the phone, he presented some impressive long-exposure snaps of stars that really shone and sparkled.

The P30 Pro impressed after dark in our own night-time test, too, and can produce a picture worthy of your Facebook timeline or Instagram presence with little to no lighting. We were expecting a different appearance to the phone’s Mate 20 Pro counterpart, though it looks almost identical apart from the notch and a few minor aesthetics. This is by no means a bad thing, with the curved body and small notch making the P30 Pro easy on the eye – and if you’re upgrading from the P20 Pro or another flagship from last year, you’ll appreciate it more.

What the Manufactures Say:

Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei Consumer BG, said: “The Huawei P30 Series is a fundamental breakthrough after decades of digital camera technology development; it will rewrite the rules and reshape everyone’s perception of mobile photography. “Innovations such as the Huawei SuperSpectrum Sensor and SuperZoom Lens allow us to push the envelope of both photography and videography – a frontier long overdue for disruption.

“The Huawei P30 Series will set the pace for the next generation of smartphones by empowering people to capture the true beauty of the world around them through a device that fits in the palm of their hands.”

The Huawei P30 Series will change users’ expectations of smartphone photography. It is equipped with a new Leica Quad Camera System, including a 40MP main camera with the Huawei SuperSpectrum Sensor, a 20MP ultra-wide angle camera, an 8MP telephoto camera, the Huawei ToF Camera and a 32MP front camera that takes selfies to a new level. The new SuperZoom Lens unlocks a superior level of zoom photography in slim-line device design.

What We have to say:

Huawei has upgraded the reverse wireless-charging technology from the Mate 20 Pro. The new device can charge all manner of wireless gadgets, such as toothbrushes, wearables and earphones – a nifty upgrade that will no doubt please tech-heads. Are we in the future, you ask? Yes kiddo, yes we are.

The P30 Pro’s battery itself is a massive 4,200mAh and can be charged by up to 70 per cent in 30 minutes. Starting the day with a full charge at 9 am, we didn’t need to charge it until a late bedtime (midnight), which is something we’re starting to associate more with Huawei smartphones. There’s also the choice of using a 15W wireless charger, which may be slower than the 40W main juicer, but is faster than most wireless chargers and very convenient. While the P30 Pro has the same processor as the Mate 20 Pro, it has the edge on power, with 8GB of RAM against the latter’s 6GB. Apps run smoothly, pictures can be taken instantaneously, and everything you’d want to do on a smartphone happens with ease. The P30 Pro is too impressive not to be a massive seller for Huawei. It’s basically an improved Mate 20 Pro with a much better camera and comes thoroughly recommended.
