Moto Z CAD render (Image: 91mobiles)
Motorola could be working on a new Moto Z smartphone. Contrary to a number of news reports which say that could be the Moto Z4 Play, new information has emerged which points to the fact that Motorola could be working on a new Moto Z smartphone. Motorola had last launched the Moto Z3 back in August 2018, but now new information from a report from XDA Developers has pointed to the fact that Motorola could be planning to launch at least two Moto Z branded smartphones. A number of renders of the Moto Z4 flagship smartphone were released which look very similar to the renders of the Moto Z4 Play. However, it now seems that the CAD renders of what it was thought to be of the Moto Z4 Play could actually be of the Moto Z4 flagship smartphone, according to the XDA report.
This puts the Moto Z4 Play in the unclear on whether Motorola is actually working on a new Z4 Play, but there is evidence that Motorola could be working on a new Moto Z smartphone which will be priced in the mid-range segment. Even if we speculate the fact that the Moto Z4 will be a flagship smartphone, this would mean the second CAD render cannot be the Z4.
There have been reports since January that pointed towards a new Motorola smartphone which was internally codenamed “stingray” and publicly codenamed “foles.” The nomenclature is similar to Motorola’s One Vision which has been codenamed internally “Robusta2” while the public codename is “kane.” The XDA report explains about a new Motorola smartphone which passed FCC certification and came with the ID IHDT56XS2, model name XT 1980-3 and every device which was used for FCC certification had IMEIs which matched other Motorola devices with the codenames “foles.”
The report confirms the fact that “foles” device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset which carries two ARM Cortex-A76-based Kryo 460 cores which have been clocked at up to 2.0GHz and other six ARM Cortex-A55-based cores which have been clocked at up to 1.7GHz. The CPU is paired to an Adreno 612 GPU.
The device will carry 4GB of RAM or 6GB of RAM with internal UFS 2.1 storage of 64GB or 128GB. The device will pack in a 3,600mAh battery with an 18W power brick, confirmed by FCC documents.
In the camera section, the phone will receive a 12-megapixel camera which is actually a 48-megapixel sensor module with quad-pixel binning technology. On the selfie front, the smartphone is expected to get a 25-megapixel module. The details are not much as of now, but the smartphone is expected to arrive with a 6.38-inch FHD+ panel.
